Can diet prevent, heal, or help us manage cancer?
Join Pamela Yee, MD, board certified in both internal and holistic
medicine and MaryBeth Augustine, RD, cancer survivor and integrative
nutrition expert for a day of learning, discovery and innovative hands-on
cooking in a supportive environment. Dr Yee will explain how she combines
conventional cancer treatment therapies with evidence-based unconventional
modalities to treat patients living with cancer.
From the same stage, MaryBeth Augustine will share how she personally
managed cancer through diet, supplements and herbal remedies and how this
journey influences her approach to working with clients living with cancer.
Turn Yee and Augustine’s therapeutic approaches into a reality you can
taste through creative hands-on cooking and food learning experiences
lead by Amanda Archibald, RD and Culinary Nutritionist, Stefanie Bryn Sacks,
MS. For lunchtime enjoy the fruits of your culinary endeavors. The day will
close with a panel discussion of medical, nutrition, culinary and patient
advocacy experts as they share their personal experiences of living and
working with cancer.
We invite you to share, care and experience
Food Solutions, a culinary-nutrition event created by Amanda Archibald and Stefanie Sacks for Urban Zen.

SPEAKER BIO:
Mary Beth Augustine, R.D., CDN, is
a Registered Dietitian and Certified Nutritionist specializing in
natural nutrition. She uses food, herbs and spices, teas, vitamins,
minerals and essential oils as part of her nutrition care “toolbox."
Her work emphasizes the interconnected health of people, food and land.
Ms. Augustine’s nutrition practices are located at
the Continuum Center for Health & Healing in Manhattan, and The
Natural Nutritionist in Brewster. Past work experiences include
Memorial Sloan-Kettering Integrative Medicine Center, cardiovascular
research at the American Health Foundation, and consultant lecturer for
Oxford Health Plans.Ms. Augustine’s specialties include oncology
nutrition (she’s a cancer survivor!), natural pain killers and
anti-inflammatory foods, and management of gastrointestinal,
autoimmune, and hormonal disorders.Ms. Augustine is a sought-after
speaker who has appeared extensively in print, radio and TV media.
Pamela Yee received her MD from the State
University of New York at Stony Brook School of Medicine and trained in Internal
Medicine at Santa Barbara Hospital in California where she also served as
Chief Resident. She also completed a prestigious fellowship in Integrative
Medicine at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York – only one of
two such programs in the country. She continued her training with one of the very
first pioneers of Integrative and Nutritional Medicine, Leo Galland MD. She has worked
for the last five years with Raymond Chang, MD, one of the few pioneers of clinical
integrative oncology. Pamela maintains a practice in Manhattan at Meridian Medical Group
where she combines her medical training with evidence-based unconventional modalities
for the treatment of a variety of conditions. Supporting her patient’s goals,
treatment can co-exist with their conventional management to enhance effectiveness,
reduce the reliance on pharmaceuticals, or, to otherwise take control over a treatment
by involving different modalities such as nutritional intervention. Many of the issues
that Dr. Yee treats are issues that don’t simply fall into diagnostic check-boxes;
illness and disease are often the manifestations of complex interactions between many
biologic processes and systems. Complex and difficult to diagnose and difficult to treat
conditions are the standard cases Dr. Yee encounters and welcomes. She also lives what she
prescribes and is an active organic farmer during the time she is not treating patients.
