TedMed blogs sonja2 TEDMED: The connection of brilliant minds and magicEvery year, I enjoy attending the TEDMED conference. I am transported into a magical, sensory world of physicians, scientists and brilliant minds who discuss the connections of all things medical and healthcare related. Seeing surgery on the brain, the most complex organ in the human body, was pure magic to me. And the magic continued throughout the two-and-a-half day conference due to the amazing calendar of events and curation by Richard Saul Wurman and Marc Hodosh.

I really enjoyed the talk by John Mackey, CEO of Whole Foods, who explained the holistic approach he brings to his company to create a happy and successful work place. From yoga  to nutrition, Mackey and Whole Foods provide the support his employees need. I also enjoyed Mehmet Oz’s talk on family, Tony Robbins’ motivational speech and Dean Kamen’s dialogue on the significance of technological advancements. Both myself and Donna were touched by the attention given to prove the science of explaining and understanding. How we touch, how we feel and how we function were explored in depth and by many perspectives; it was just truly remarkable. I am so grateful for such an amazing experience and am already looking forward to next year.

And lastly, I cannot thank Richard and Marc enough for incorporating the Urban Zen Integrative Therapists (UZIT) into this year’s TEDMED. Having the UZITs at the conference brought a new and much needed perspective to the amazing discussions, performances and knowledge already in place. The UZITs offered conference attendees a taste of the integrative therapies including Reiki and essential oil therapy. I am so grateful for the amazing feedback we received and the extraordinary contacts we made.
