This weekend, the Urban Zen Foundation had the extraordinary opportunity to ignite a necessary conversation. On Sunday, December 5th we welcomed our friends Deepak Chopra, Andrew Cohen and Arianna Huffington into the Stephan Weiss Studio to navigate the timely, inspiring, and ultimately challenging discussion of co-creating a spiritually inspired future.
It was fascinating to see our 400 guests flood into the center to take their seats at our sold-out event, such tangible proof that we are living in a time of peaked spiritual hunger and Divine curiosity.
Minutes into the conversation a thread of continuity rose to the surface: we are living in a time of transition. As Arianna said, “we are moving from survival and competition to meaning and collaboration.” It was impossible not to consider this truth without acknowledging the multiplicity of ways in which we are all interconnected. Every one of us, at every moment, possesses bountiful opportunities to connect, to plug in.
How, then, do we take these connections and elevate our spiritual well-being? This may be one of the greatest challenges of our time. We live in a world that is hyper-aware of the 140-character tweet. Still, our plight to be heard, to be understood, to connect keeps growing exponentially.
It made us consider the fact that the guests in attendance only represented a small portion of the greater Urban Zen community that was plugged into our event. We had hundreds of people joining us on Twitter discussing the definitions of spirituality and still more watching the live-stream of the event. The innovation and modernity of our spiritual conversation was striking.
More than striking, it was embraced. Deepak Chopra highlighted it well when he said, “I am a technology fanatic…a fiend. Information technology is exponential and it is uncontrollable. And, if it is unstoppable, then we must make an ally of it… to step out of the information age and into a knowledge-based society.”
At Urban Zen we wholly support the movement toward a more conscious way of life. Our goal is to amplify the voices of change and to passionately elevate our capacity for connection. We believe that there is tremendous potential that lies within each one of us and we know that when we come together we absolutely have the power to transform.
