The Urban Zen Center presents Food Solutions: A Whole Foods Approach to Wellness, six workshops that give you the practical tools to make food lifestyle change.

On January 20, 2010, the Urban Zen Foundation, in conjunction with the Palette Fund, Amanda Archibald, RD and Culinary Nutritionist, Stefanie Bryn Sacks, MS will kick off a series of ground-breaking, inspirational workshops focused on educating the Urban Zen community and beyond on navigating and restoring health through food.

The series will consist of six one-day workshops presented over the course of 2010. Each workshop will focus on a specific hot health topic that advocates dietary change as part of the healing plan. Panel discussions led by experts in the field, practical hands-on learning—in the kitchen—and food education activities are a vital part of this life-changing workshop experience.

Lisa R. Young, PhD, RD, CDN is a nationally recognized nutritionist in New York and adjunct professor of nutrition at New York University. She is an expert on portion control and author of "Portion Teller" (Broadway, a division of Random House). She is regularly featured in national publications and television, and has appeared in the film "Super Size Me."

Dr. Young offers nutrition counseling, gives lectures and workshops, and writes articles on portion control and healthy eating. She received her doctorate in Nutrition from NYU, and her bachelor’s degree in Health Care Administration from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. She was named Woman of Action by the Israel Cancer Research Fund.

Kenneth A. Bock, MD, FAAFP, FACN, CNS, received his MD with Honor from the University of Rochester School of Medicine in 1979. A pioneer and leader in the field of integrative medicine for more then two decades, Dr. Bock’s expertise lies in bringing a comprehensive integrative medicine approach to complex medical problems, including the 4-A disorders – autism, ADHD, asthma and allergies. His Healing Program for the 4-A disorders is detailed in his latest book, "Healing the New Childhood Epidemics: Autism, ADHD, Asthma and Allergies," which has received international acclaim.

Stephen Cowan MD, FAAP is a holistic developmental pediatrician practicing in a general pediatric practice in Croton-on-Hudson, NY and has a consulting practice in Mt Kisco, NY. He is a member of the teaching faculty at NY Medical College, a fellow in the American Academy of Pediatrics, a member of the AAP section on Developmental Disabilities, a member of Autism Research Institute practitioners, a member of the American Academy of Medical Acupuncture and an advisory board member of the Holisitic Pediatric Association.

Dr. Cowan incorporates alternative therapies in the treatment of common childhood disorders.
