JULY 2010

SUMMER REJUVENATION

DONNA'S VOICE
Summer is here and I'm already so inspired by the season. The ocean blues, the rich beiges of the sand, the wind playing on fabric, everywhere I look I find inspiration. For me, summer shifts my energy and attention away from the chaos of urban living and lets me focus on the most important things in my life: my family and my well-being. I cherish the simple things - having fresh juices in the morning before heading into town for a yoga class, being present in the natural beauty of Long Island and finding joy and serenity in the act of breathing.

This summer promises to offer so much to indulge the senses and reflect upon. There is Super Saturday, an amazing opportunity to see philanthropy and commerce working together in the support of ongoing ovarian cancer research. Bring your family and visit the different booths, from Success For Kids to Urban Zen and other extraordinary organizations. Later this summer, Ellen's Run will kick off its fundraising event to assist Southampton Hospital in caring for its breast cancer patients. And nothing pleases me more than sharing with you that Southampton Hospital has opened its doors to the Urban Zen Integrative Therapists, allowing us to give back to this community.

CELEBRATE

WELLNESS IN THE HAMPTONS

SUPER SATURDAY
One of the most prominent philanthropic events of the year, Super Saturday, is slated for Saturday, July 31 at Noah's Ark. Co-founded by Donna Karan and the late Liz Tilberis, and underwritten by Donna Karan, Super Saturday is not just a family-oriented, fun-filled day, it's a benefit to raise funds for Ovarian Cancer Research Fund. Last year, the day-long shopping event raised nearly $3.4 million. Come out this year and help support a great cause.

CLINICAL EXCELLENCE
WITH A HOLISTIC MINDSET

The Southampton Hospital is committed to providing the highest quality of healthcare services for its community, with values that are summarized in the acronym: CARES. But what really makes Urban Zen take heart now more then ever is the hospital's new Integrative Medicine Facility, the  Ed and Phyllis Davis Wellness Institute. With a class  schedule that includes yoga for cancer survivors, qi gong for balance, the art of food and nourishment, the hospital combines clinical excellence with a holistic approach to wellness, and makes it all available to the community. www.southamptonhospital.org

REMEMBERING ELLEN
AND HONORING DONNA

"An activist and an advocate, Ellen [Hermanson] channeled her journalistic talents to become a forceful voice for breast cancer patients and their families." The Ellen Hermanson Foundation was established in 1997 to honor her memory and carry on the important work to which she devoted so much of her time and energy. Every year, the foundation hosts a 5K run - you can join as an individual or as a team. This year, the run, on August 22, is launching with a pre-party honoring Donna Karan, Steven Klein and Hope Klein Langer. www.ellensrun.org
