On July 10th, we invited our community to join us on Facebook for an online campaign celebrating the children in our lives. It is exciting to share these photos submitted by our community. It is our children who provide us with the truest joy of love and through their sadness we understand our own compassion. Urban Zen’s mission is to care for our children’s wellbeing in mind, body, and spirit by giving them tools to face obstacles and opportunities with love, compassion, and strength. Thank you for participating!

FEED-Raiser: Conscious Holiday Shopping at Urban Zen

On Tuesday night, the Urban Zen Foundation collaborated with Lauren Bush, FEED Projects and Gilt City to produce the annual Holiday FEED-Raiser and Market. The seasonal event was a celebratory evening enjoyed by a festive crowd excited to explore the sustainable, philanthropic vendors while ensuring that more of the world’s children receive nourishing meals.
The evening’s guests included many notable journalists and bloggers who wrote fantastic pieces detailing the event.
Here, a selection of the highlights:
Model and philanthropic niece to former President George W., Lauren Bush hosted her third annual FEED-Raiser at Urban Zen in the West Village [Tuesday] night with Gilt City. Tickets to the eco-friendly holiday market benefited the same cause as her product line FEED Projects: Providing food to kids around the world.

Partygoers…included Mark Seliger, Cynthia Rowley, Donna Karan, Zani Gugelmann and Amanda Hearst. Patrick Robinson and Sam Talbot chatted in the glow cast by an enormous, light-spangled Christmas tree. Elsewhere, vibrantly colored sarongs, sundresses and beachy jewelry taunted heavily bundled guests, who had stepped inside from the decidedly colder climes of the West Village streets only to be confronted with large-scale photographs of Haitian children on the beach. Marc Baptiste, the lensman behind the works, was also on hand. The party-cum-market, co-sponsored by Karan’s Urban Zen Foundation and Gilt City, offered everything from much-needed woolen accessories to jellies, jams and jewelry. The whole fete had the endearing air of a neighborhood Christmas market, though perhaps with more sequined-strewn shoppers than one might expect in other zip codes.

Please note that there is still time to partake in some of the beauty of the evening as Marc Baptiste’s expertly curated photography exhibit will be on display until January 21, 2011. We invite you to stop by the Urban Zen Center and experience the compelling images in person.
