sternberg October Community Ambassador   Dr. Esther SternbergThis October, Urban Zen honors Dr. Esther Sternberg as our Community Ambassador for her scientific approach to healing and well-being. Renowned for her discoveries on the science of the mind-body interaction in illness and healing, Dr. Esther Sternberg clearly explains these developments in her books Healing Spaces: The Science of Place and Well-Being and The Balance Within: The Science Connecting Health and Emotions. Dr. Sternberg has been honored as one of 300 women physicians who have changed the face of medicine by the National Library of Medicine and currently works at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD, where she is currently section Chief of Neuroendocrine Immunology and Behavior at the National Institute of Mental Health.

In May 2010, Urban Zen had the honor to host a screening of the “Science of Healing,” a PBS special that Sternberg created with Emmy Award winning Resolution Pictures. Shown to a packed house at the Urban Zen Center, the audience left stimulated and intrigued. Urban Zen recognizes Dr. Sternberg for her innate ability to translate complex scientific subjects in a highly accessible manner while maintaining academic credibility and compassion as a physician.
