HOPE, HELP & REBUILD HAITI

HOPE, HELP & REBUILD HAITI (HHRH) is the next evolution of the work that was started by Donna Karan and the Urban Zen Foundation immediately following the January 2010 earthquake with music executive Andre Harrell, the Mary J. Blige and Steve Stoute Foundation for the Advancement of Women Now, and Andre Balazs and The Standard as an initiative of Urban Zen aimed at galvanizing a community in response to Haiti’s immediate need to rebuild. HHRH’s mission is to create a conscious community of leaders in music, fashion, film, finance and art to become agents of change for the renewal of Haiti.”

My Haiti, the Haiti that I have come to know and love, is home to such resilience, such creativity, such impassioned people. It’s a place where community comes together and powerful collaborations are born. I believe that where there is creativity, there is hope. Hope is all over Haiti. Hope is Haiti. I invite you to go on a visual journey depicting our mission to Hope, Help & Rebuild.     CLICK HERE TO BEGIN

URBAN ZEN IS ON A MISSION:
to help develop, market and present the work of Haiti artisans to the western world. As an ambassador to the preservation of Haiti’s artistry and expression, Donna Karan and a community of supporters have been traveling to Haiti at every opportunity, working one-on-one with the artists and manufacturers. “The artistry and skill is breathtaking,” Donna says. “I am so inspired by what I am seeing and the people with whom I’m working with. I couldn’t be more excited.”

NOMAD

This year we were honored to bring awareness to the Haitian Artisan community through collaboration with Nomad Two Worlds. At exhibitions in Los Angeles, Berlin and Haiti, we created Haiti pop up displays showcasing the beauty and potential of Haitian crafts. We also connected Haitian painter, Philippe Dodard with reknowned photographer and creator of Nomad, Russell James. Together Philippe and Russell, created works of art that were displayed as part of the exhibit and support the preservation of indigenous cultures.

MILLION HEARTS

In February of 2011, Urban Zen launched the Million Hearts For Haiti campaign. This campaign encourages the community to purchase these stone hearts that are handmade in Haiti and showcase its creative expression in support of the Haiti Artisan community. Proceeds from sales of the hearts go to the HAND/EYE Fund’s artisan grants program in Haiti – which offers small cash grants to artists and artisans who need to rebuild houses and workshops, replenish tools and raw materials, and gain access to design input from the markets in which they are trying to sell.
