In 2006, Donna Karan and Sonja Nuttall hosted HOPE, an event of love and hope for their honored guest, His Holiness, the Dalai Lama, to raise funds for the Norbulingka Institute, a center in Dharamsala, India, dedicated to preserving the richness and luminosity of the art, history and culture of Tibet. The event included a yoga day sponsored by Rodney Yee, conversations with Professor Robert Thurman and a host of dignitaries and special guests. READ MORE

June 5, 2011 – Urban Zen’s Hope, Help and Rebuild Haiti was the beneficiary for this year’s Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic. This event, at Governors Island, was hosted by Nacho Figueras, Delfina Blaquier, Marc Jacobs, and our founder Donna Karan. The Urban Zen tent was visited throughout the day by guests who were excited to support Haitian artisans by purchasing handcrafted Haitian bracelets, necklaces, and T-shirts. As a beneficiary, Urban Zen Foundation will be able to use the proceeds raised to support the Apparent Project, Project MediShare, St. Damiens, Partners in Health, Yele Haiti, ProDev, Cine Institue and APJ Academy.READ MORE

STRENGTH AND BALANCE BY ELIZABETH JORDAN

April 13, 2011 – Elizabeth Jordan’s “Strength and Balance” photography exhibition is a collection of images that capture the immense burden carried by the women of the world and the grace with which they shoulder that burden. The proceeds of the pieces sold at this fundraiser directly benefitted Women for Women International and We Advance – two amazing organizations that are working, effectively, to change the lives of women for the better. HELP HAITI WITH BEN STILLER HONORING SEAN PENN

February 11, 2011 – Ben Stiller, Eddie Murphy and Brett Ratner joined Donna Karan and Andre Balazs to honor Sean Penn, Actor and CEO of J/P HRO. The evening raised over $850,000 in support of Haiti. This event was the perfect example of what can be done when people work together towards a common goal. Donna was the catalyst in bringing the Stiller Foundation and J/P HRO together for this special evening, joining the Urban Zen and the Hope, Help & Relief Haiti initiative to raise vital funds for Haiti. READ MORE

October 21, 2010 – Urban Zen hosted the global book launch of Dana Gluckstein’s photography book, “DIGNITY: In Honor of the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.” The evening, graciously sponsored by Morgan Stanley, was not only a celebration of a book launch, it was an event designed both to support the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) and to honor the 50th anniversary of Amnesty International. June 15, 2010 “I had heard about Baaba Maal’s voice and spirit but to be in the presence of his channel is an experience I will never forget,” says Donna Karan. “Baaba Maal is an advocate, inspiration and a model for what Urban Zen stands for which is that of inspiration and change.” Urban Zen hosted the singer for an intimate evening celebrating Africa.
